MobileXpression
MobileXpression is an app that pretty much pays you to keep on browsing!
It’s potentially one of the easiest ways of making money as its aim is to understand how average people use the mobile internet and determine the rank of websites. One of the questions the website asks is if the use of the internet is the same on mobile phones as it is on non-mobile phones (i.e. PCs, tablets etc). It’s similar to the way in which TV analysts look at ratings to get a clearer idea of the demographics of different shows.
After you have installed the app, it just sits quietly in the background of your phone, monitoring your internet activity to see which sites are the most popular.
The information you submit is completely anonymous and even more unrecognisable once compiled with other users to create a broad report on Internet trends and activities.
Join up today and you will start by receiving an Amazon gift card after only one week!
Being a member is also good for the environment because after 90 days, MobileXpression will plant a tree with Trees for Knowledge in recognition of your participation and thereafter for every month you remain a member.
Before you sign up, though, make sure that you check out what other people say about the app online as survey forums often hold need-to-know information and top tips on how to maximise your profits.

4. rake in rewards by listening to music and watching videos
Now if you really want to make money with your mobile phone and fancy spending a few hours a day just caching up on the latest online videos, then this is the app for you!
Don’t kid me, you already do it but probably when you’re actually meant to be doing something else.
Now you have an excuse to do it as you could get paid to watch music videos and adverts from your mobile phone.
Viggle, for example, gives you points every time you switch on the TV. You can also get stuck into red button activities and answer questions if you want to get ahead. Viggle even gives you extra points for binge-watching a series!
Points can be redeemed for vouchers and gift cards from over 800 places such as Starbucks, Foot Locker, Groupon and Best Buy.
It takes 600 points however, to make around $0.01 and so it takes perseverance to make a profit: it is probably only worth it if you do spend every day in front of the TV.
Liked Viggle? Then love:
- Ad Me
- AppTrailers
5. Get addicted to apps
At Money Magpie, we love apps that pay us to try out the cutting edge of the market because it means that we can stay ahead of the game!
An app that is worth a try is UserTesting as this rewards you for to trialling apps that haven’t yet been released.
Sign up at usertesting.com to do a sample tests and start being paid for your honest opinion.
Feedback is submitted by voice recordings and a $10 payment via PayPal is made for every 20 minute session.
Feature Points also pays you to try new games and gadgets and gives big bonuses if you get your friends on board too. Make sure they log in with your referral link and you’ll get 50% of the points they earn!
As 600 points are roughly equivalent to $1, this can give you a big boost to your earnings.
You can trade in your points for gift cards from top brands such as Amazon, Starbucks, iTunes and XBox.
Why not check out some of these apps also?
- Free My Apps
- InboxPounds
6. Snap up cash
Are you a photography fan? Maybe you’re even looking to get into it after school or university?
Well why not get some easy experience under you’re belt by submitting your mobile phone snaps to apps like Foap and get some money?
Foap is a stock photography website and so looks out for high quality phone photos of almost everything under the sun.
Once you’ve uploaded your photos to the site, you get paid $5 every time someone buys one of yours. 20 downloads later and you could have raked in $100 – not bad for some stylish snapping!
If you’ve already got a pretty solid following for your photos on Instagram, then make sure you check out PopularPays. Brands use the app to get Insta-famous photographers to use their products and they will send them to you for free.
If you have around 500 followers, for example, you could be starting every day with a photogenic cup of free coffee! Not, exactly, a bad way to make money with your mobile phone!
Like the sound of this? Then make sure you give these a go also:
- Icon Zoomer
- Snapwire
7. Become a corporate spy
Ever fancied a bit of espionage?
Then this is your chance to transform yourself into the shopping sleuth you have always wanted to be: the Moneypenny of Bond Street.
Task orientated crowdsourcing apps like Field Agent are available for iPhone users and pay you to check up on the retailers near you.
Agents download the app and then have a two hour time frame to complete their chosen task.
Missions can include:
- checking prices with a photo or scan of a barcode
- product reviews
- surveys and polls
- verifying business locations
- brochure placement
Tasks are released on a first come first served basis but the more points you get, the more higher paying challenges come exclusive to you.
The amount paid for each job can vary from $3 to $12 and so after a few missions, money can really mount up.
Also try:
- EasyShift
- Gigwalk
- Rewardable
- iSecret Shop
- TaskRabbit
8. Get rewarded for your routine
App manufacturers have cottoned on to the fact that people like to make money while being efficient with their time. This means that you can get money for simply going about your daily business.
Locket, for example, is one of the easiest to use as all you have to do is install a specific variety of ads on your home screen and then every time you open your lock screen you get paid.
So, we’re basically saying that you’re going to get paid for simply opening your messages and checking the time on your phone!
The app (which is only available for Android users) is capped at a $0.03 earning an hour however, which means a realistic max of $0.48 a day if you unlock your phone 3 times an hour for 16 hours.
Locket also only allows you to withdraw money in cash form once you’ve reached $10. This means you’ve got to commit to it for about 3 weeks before you see any results.
ShopKick is another app which rewards you with points for simply popping to the shops. Using GPS, the app figures out your location and sends appropriate offers, then increasing your total if you spend money with your card.
The company told TechCrunch that, dating to April 2017, Shopkick has driven over 200 million store visits, over 270 million product scans in aisle, and over $2.5 billion in total sales from brand and retail partners.
But points don’t depend on purchases and can then be exchanged for gift cards and discounts from big brands such as Mentos, Ragu, Ben & Jerry’s, Ruffino Wines, Sargento and Starbucks.
Another app you should try is Sweatcoin. You get paid simply for walking. So, if your daily routine includes a job where you walk loads, this could be the app for you! Rewards range from top-of-the-range shoes to the latest iPhone.
Why not also try:
- Reciept Hog
- Ibotta
- CheckOut Smart
- Perk
- Earny
9. sell your old handset
If, like me, you don’t know what to do with your old devices when your upgrade comes in, then giffgaff might have the answer: recycling your old phones for cash.
Prices vary depending on the make and condition of your gadget – for example, an Apple iPhone 11 128GB could be worth around £230.
Take a look at giffgaffrecycle.com and see for yourself how much your phone could be worth – it’s as easy as that!
10. CONVERT YOUR currency INTO GOLD
Always wanted to own something other than money but that has high value? Well, why not convert your money into gold?
Glint is a game-changing app that allows you to spend gold digitally. You’ll get your own MasterCard and be able to use the card anywhere at home or abroad where the MasterCard sign is displayed. You top-up the card by bank transfer or debit card.
The best part is that every time you buy an ounce of gold, that same bar is physically allocated in a vault in Switzerland. It’s allowed because Glint is working with Lloyds Bank as their deposit holder.
Another thing, if you don’t want to keep your money in Sterling but are unsure about gold too, the app will allow you to store your money in another currency such as US Dollars or Euros. How good is that!
So, if you want to make money, just convert your currency into gold and wait for the gold price to soar!
Note: The app points out that it is not a bank. But each bit of gold you own is protected by Lloyds of London.
11. call other countries for free
Now is the moment to wave goodbye to summer time sadness as you never need to pay money for messaging and calling again.
This is because apps such as Whastapp, Facebook Messenger and Skype make it really easy to call your friends on holiday for free.
Compare this to standard international call rates from most mobile phone providers and could find yourself avoiding charges of up to £1.49 (TalkMobile) a minute.
These apps also enable you to send voice recordings, videos and photos for free and even allow you to video chat!
Of course, this all depends on internet access but if you are abroad and you need to call your parents for the annual check-in, WiFi is often readily available and even if your in the depths of the Sahara or the heights of the Himalayas, you can buy data before you go and link up that way.
Now you have no excuse not to ring home!
12. beat back at your bills with our price comparison tools
It is now easier than ever to keep control of your energy bills as useful apps such as Hive and Nest monitor your house for you.
Did you know that the average heating bill can cost as much as up to £1,494 a year?
Well, despite the first initial outgoing of £249 which is needed to buy the system, Nest can help you reduce your household expenditure by up to 15% a year. This will more than pay for that initial spend!
When you buy it, you receive a small white box which you have to wire to your boiler to get the thermostat to link to the internet. When you’ve downloaded the app, this enables you to control the temperature of your house from your mobile phone as the device sends a signal using your WiFi to your boiler.
After using the app for a few days, Nest remembers your heating habits and generates a regular plan for you. This means that you no longer have to worry about fiddling around with the thermostat on your boiler and that you can sit back and relax as your phone makes you house efficient and environmentally friendly.
An even easier way of cutting down on your bills from your mobile phone is to check out the MoneyMagpie price comparison tools. These ensure that you are getting the best value for your money when it comes to your energy, mortgage and bank accounts, and you can do it while on the go.
13. Wire money via WhatsApp and get it paid straight to your phone
Everyone has that one friend who always seems to have left their wallet at home or to have lost their card.
Well, Whatsapp has come along to solve that awkward situation by introducing peer to peer mobile payments.
Hammel-Bonten, Chief Product Officer at PPRO Group says, “WhatsApp has over one billion daily users, meaning the vast majority of smartphone users will be able to make and receive payments via the app. Offering payments inside the app will help friends transfer money on their favourite messaging app quickly and securely without having to carry physical cash. This functionally will presumably be released on the UK version of the app, which will mark another seismic step towards a new cultural phenomenon – the cashless society.”
This will minimise the amount of spare change you will have lying around and so will help keep you and your friends on top of your finances in the future.
14. keep track of your spare change
Spending 99p can often be annoying because, while its true that every penny counts, often the small change just gets lots down the side of a car seat or in the lining of your bag.
Acorns is an app that rounds up your online purchases to make investing seem like a small and accessible task rather than a massive and overwhelming one. This means that, if you spend £7.35 on headphones, for example, the app will round up to a pound and put £0.63 towards your chosen exchange-traded fund.
Acorns has raised nearly $97 million in venture capital so far, closing its latest round of funding in May 2017. It’s made investing so easy, you don’t even have to think about it!
KiTTi is another app which helps you stay on top of your purse strings.
The app is powered by Santander and allows up to 100 users to pay money into a collective digital piggy bank which can be accessed by a pre-paid MasterCard to pay for anything.
It reduces the hassle of buying a joint birthday present for someone and makes it less messy to split a bill.
15. Recycle your mobile phone for cash rewards
If you’ve finally had enough of your mobile phone then you can still get some money from it as websites will pay to have its parts.
Here at MoneyMagpie, we have made it super easy for you to recycle your phone as we have set up a nifty new comparison tool which you can access by clicking here.
This tool lists some of the top recycling companies and the prices they will pay for your specific model. Some of the major recycling companies include:

To find out more, read our guide to recycling your mobile phone for cash.
Oh, and don’t forget to get the best deal on your phone!
Last, but not least, if you’re going to use these methods to make money, make sure you get a good phone contract. It’s no good earning money from your phone if you’re paying a fortune for your data.
Use our comparison tool to find the best mobile phone contract for you.

Online Surveys for Money, Is It Worth It?
Online Surveys for Money finding legit survey companies vs. scams
The first thing you need to learn is the difference between survey companies that are 100% legit and ones that are complete scams. I know this because I spent some time in college trying out online surveys and I just got spammed with a bunch of junk because I wasn’t using the right companies.
The ones I’ve talked about on M$M are all completely legit – my goal has always been to only tell you about products/services/companies that can actually help you. Here’s my review and recommendation for reputable survey companies.
I’d say that before you try any survey companies out, Google something like “honest review of [name of company]” or just get straight to it with “is [name of company] a scam.”
How much money will you make taking online surveys?
I’ve seen survey sites advertise that you can make $5-$15 per hour doing online surveys, some even saying you can make upwards of $35 per hour. That $5 per hour? Forget it. Your time is worth way more than that.
However, the reality with these surveys, and you’ll see why as you read on, is that you are more likely to make much, much less than any of those amounts. An article from Student Loan Hero found that most people who take surveys for money were only earning in the $1-$2 range.
Yes, that is $1-$2 per hour.
In terms of side hustle potential – scalability and one day being able to leave your regular job – this is no bueno.
Then how do they advertise a much higher earning potential?
I know that’s where your mind is going, and a good question.
The way these survey companies work, and I’m still talking legit ones, is by connecting you to the right surveys, the surveys you qualify for. Because you’re basically part of a company’s market research, you need to fit in the market they’re trying to hit. There are going to be some screening questions that filter appropriate surveys your way, but that doesn’t always mean you’ll be a perfect match.
So, you start taking the survey, get five minutes or more into a series of questions, and then they might disqualify you. You still may earn something for that initial time investment, but it will be hardly anything. You’re not going to recoup that time you lost, and to do another survey you have to start all over, potentially being disqualified again.
This isn’t a scam. This is just trying to be matched with the right survey – the one you might make $15 taking – and that’s going to take time. All the time you’ve put into finding that the survey needs to be factored into your per hour cost.
And that’s one of the problems with trying to complete surveys for money, a lot of your time is spent just trying to find a survey that will actually make you some money.
Taking surveys for money doesn’t always earn you real money
Many survey companies pay you in points instead of real cash. Those points can be used to redeem cash, gift cards, merch, etc., but it’s not like you get a check at the end of the week for your hours worked. There can also be a minimum you must earn before getting a payout.
Swagbucks is a popular and legit company that pays in what they call SB. You take a survey, earn some SB, and redeem it. But, it might take something like 500 SB to claim a $5 Amazon gift card.
This might sound harsh, but this feels a little like the Chuck E. Cheese model. You win 50 tickets dunking baskets, then another 200 tickets playing that weird game where the light goes around in a circle. 10-year-old you are like “I’m totally going to get that Sega!” But when you get up to the ticket counter you’ll realize you actually need two million tickets for the Sega.
There honestly isn’t anything wrong with this way of earning points or money, but it might not be what you expected.
Taking surveys for money is NOT fast cash
If you do want to cash out your earnings, or if you’ve found a company that does pay in cash, it can take up to a month to receive your pay.
If you really need fast cash, here are three other things you could do right now:
- Yardwork – mow grass, shovel snow, rake leaves.
- List and sell something on the Facebook marketplace – appliances, gym equipment, clothes, electronics, etc.
- Check out the “gigs” section on Craigslist – You might move furniture, hang drywall, or clean a house.
- Not all side hustles are going to be fast cash, but waiting 30 days for a $5 check is a little overkill.
Online surveys can take up too much of your time for what they pay
Like I mentioned earlier, one of the markers for a good side hustle is that you can do them outside of your normal business hours, and let’s say you have an additional five hours per day to take online surveys for money.
If your five hours are going to pay just that $2 per hour I mentioned above, $10 is what you’re earning per day. Assuming you do it at least five days a week, every week for a month, that’s $200 a month. Sure, that’s not horrible…
… but you’ve just earned $200 for 100 hours worth of work.
If you did end up matching with a lot of surveys, your earnings could like more like this:
Earning $5 per hour and making $500 per month.
Earning $10 per hour and making $1,000 per month…
An extra $1,000 a month doesn’t sound bad
You’re right, it doesn’t. But remember that’s from working an extra 100 hundred hours per month if you’re taking surveys for money.
There are so many better options!
Running Facebook ads for local business can earn you $1,000 per month in just an extra 8-12 hours per week, and it’s something you can grow by adding more clients. This is exactly what I did after leaving my teaching job to blog full time, and now I teach others how to do the same.
M$M tip: If you’re interested in learning more about running Facebook ads for local businesses, something that has a real earnings potential, check out my Facebook Side Hustle Course page.
Other, better than online survey, side hustle options include:
- Freelancing
- Pet sitting
- Flipping furniture
- And more!
I’d say that any type of side gig, whether you start earning $1,000 per month or not, is about understanding that your time is an investment. When you’re taking online surveys for the money you’re not investing in a sustainable income source. You’re not going to grow in that job. Occasionally qualifying for a $35 per hour survey here and there is about as good as it’s going to get.
Is taking online surveys for money ever a good idea?
If you feel like I just poo-pooed all over your next idea for making money, I’m sorry. There are still some situations when taking surveys for money might not be an awful idea. It’s really about knowing the limitations you have for earning, the sheer amount of time it will take to earn a decent amount of cash, and that you might not actually earn cash.
As long you understand all of those things… then onward… take surveys!
I’ve seen online surveys advertised as “mindless money,” meaning it doesn’t take much brain power to earn from them, and that’s true. Surveys are good when you really just need a mindless activity that might also earn you money. So, the next time you find yourself playing Candy Crush on your phone while watching a movie with boo, take a survey instead.
Can You Really Make Money With Surveys With Apps?
Can You Really Make Money With Surveys With App and the first step was to try out the app for myself. How better to learn about its functions?
Getting Started With Surveys With App
Surveys On The Go has been downloaded over 500 thousand times, and has a very good Google Play Rating of 4.4 stars. In the short description for it, it claims to be the ‘#1 rated/reviewed survey app.’ They also say that they ‘pay you CASH for your opinions.’
Can You Really Make Money With Surveys With App Basic Information
Here’s another quote from the read more section of the app listing. To be honest, I was intrigued when I heard this…
“Fortune 500 companies, the entertainment industry and companies around the country need your opinions – and we’ll pay you for them. Surveys On The Go is unlike any other survey application on the market today because it pays in cash, not points. You’ll earn real money for surveys you can take quickly.”
This seemed to do a good job of describing the major details of the app—but I was excited to open it up and get started. The sign-up/login screen was pretty simple. I logged in using my Facebook, which is pretty normal for apps like this, and makes the process easier. The question is can you really make money with surveys?
Here’s what happened after I logged in.
Logging-In Can You Really Make Money With Surveys
First, I had to review the terms and conditions—which were quite long, to be honest. I clicked the ‘I agree’ button after reaching the end of the page, and proceeded on to what seemed to be the hub of the app.
The Main Hub Of Surveys With App
Here, I could click on three main tap options: profile, surveys, or earned. It seemed like I had two surveys that I could take part in right away, actually—and it looked like each one of them would earn me $0.50.
I was already really excited that this app rewarded me in real cash instead of points—but I was also already a bit leery of the fact that I didn’t have any more survey options than just these two.
Was this going to be one of those survey apps that didn’t give me very many survey options? Was I going to be able to take enough surveys to make it worth my time?
These were the types of questions that were on my mind—but I’ve also learned, with reviewing similar apps, that you sometimes need to conduct these introductory surveys to see what other types of surveys you qualify for—so I was holding out hope that more surveys would pop up after I completed these.
But for now, it was time to get to work. I was going to do both of these surveys, and then figure out what was going on after that.
Here’s how it went.
Completing The Two Introductory Surveys With Surveys With App
I clicked on the About Me – Main survey first, and was instantly greeted with this screen. As I had suspected, completing this survey may indeed qualify me for more surveys on down the road—so I was pretty pumped to get started on it.
This first survey was pretty easy. They just asked for basic information about me, such as my ethnicity, my gender, what country I lived in, what state I lived in, my annual income, what type of job I had, my employment status, etc. These were all pretty typical survey-type questions, in my experience—and they didn’t surprise me.
They weren’t overly invasive, but they did ask the types of questions that one would need to ask to determine my place in society.
Next, I moved on to the About Me – Household survey. This survey asked some rather interesting questions… unlike any that I had really answered in a survey before.
For example—they asked how many children I had, which was typical—but they also asked me what my parenting style was, and gave me like four pretty broad options to choose from.
At any rate, I finished the survey—and quickly realized that I had no more surveys to do. The question is can you really make money with surveys?
Since this was the case, I put the app away for a while (about 4-5 hours or so) and waited to see if I would get any more.
I logged back in after waiting, and still had no new surveys to take. (Note: The app dinged my phone twice during this time, but by the time I got back to a place where I could check the notifications, they were gone… so I have no idea what they were.)
Wondering if this was a common occurrence for other users, I took to the Google Play store reviews to see if I could find any additional information.
Here’s what I found.
What I Found Out About Surveys On The Go In The Google Play Store
After reading through the Google Play Reviews, I learned 3 things about this app.
- A lot of people really like it in the sense that it’s a no-nonsense app that will help you to make some extra cash. They like that it seems to be all business, no runaround—and that gets it high marks.
- A lot of people complain that there aren’t enough surveys to fill out. A lot of people seem to say that they only get surveys like 3 or 4 times a month. Some say that it isn’t enough to make it worth it, and some say that it is worth it, you just need to be patient.
- Some people have said that the app has some technical glitches in it in regards to submitting surveys. Some have also said that there are quite a few incidences of surveys ‘not qualifying,’ which means that they only make $0.10 instead of the actual survey amount because, after starting and filling out at least most of the survey, it turns out that they don’t qualify for it.
